Harlequins

Acrylic on canvas, first half of 2004.

Dimensions: 22 x 63 inches

This was painted during my days in art school, which was a very enriching experience, although it lasted only a month. My teacher, bless him, used to tell me that I should consider my paintings finished when they were only coal sketches... I guess he appreciated my sketches, much more than the finished work. He told me once that it was "pretty trendier" to leave them without a traditional completion, that this was what modern art was all about; such a comment spat me out of the art school in a split second, due to my horror in relation to anything that can be considered "trendy".
